Halo: Metal Strips Wide A

These are some of the textures I've created for my personal "Silent Cartographer" remake.

I imported texture maps from the original game into Blender so I could remodel each panel, vent, and bevel in 3D. Then I brought the HP meshes into Marmoset Toolbag 3 to bake additional maps. I finished the the texture painting in Substance 3D Painter.

The purpose of this project is to remaster Halo CE artwork, while remaining entirely faithful to the source material. Bungie made a classic worth revisiting.

Forerunner structures in the original Halo CE have simple silhouettes. But up close, they can be quite elaborate. It reminds me of the Death Star or a circuit board. You have to get close to really see what’s going on.

Here's how this exact texture set was used in the original game. The ceiling is just two planes with a mess of panels and bevels on the surface. And it doesn't have to be anything more than that—that is bizarre and alien enough already.

Using the original textures as a template leads to a lot of 1x4K or 2x4K maps. But one cool thing about this method is that all of the remastered textures will also work with the original mesh UVs.
